HELENA

and the orchestra of the world of mist

The closest fields were used for horses to graze on. There were no real closed stables. Instead there were spacious shelters with ones back to the stronger winds and hay distributors for the winter. The group of five or six horses were protected from wolves by big sheepdogs who lived near the shelters. These dogs had been placed there as youngsters and were convinced that the horses were members of their family. Perhaps they thought that they themselves were just a different breed of horse.

The first field to the left, facing the gate was Fires, which he shared with Presto. Presto was a black trotter with white hooves. He was bigger than Fire and a lot calmer. This brave and experienced horse was comfortable in all situations. He had one thing in common with his mount, Constantine, and that was to avoid expending any unnecessary energy. That was what gave him a slow, nonchalant air which fooled many observers, unaware of his true athletic nature. Presto could trot or gallop almost indefinitely, but only if he was motivated, or if it was necessary. Racing Fire meant total motivation, and you could feel when he raced against Fire, that he merited his companions name. His acceleration was good, but not half as impressive as his phenomenal speed. Presto was transformed into a racehorse, with the forest as his race track. His mounts had to keep their heads down, since if a passage was low enough for him to get through, it wasnt really his problem if his rider had to leap like a Cossack and jump off to the side so as not to hit a low branch or get a clump of leaves in his face.

HELENA

and the orchestra of the world of mist

The street Sohane, Helena and Constantine were walking along continued to the left, on a path leading to Constantine Miref’s farm, where “Fire”, Sohane’s horse lived. To the right, another street led to a path on the edge of the forest, at the end of which, on the outskirts of the village, was the home of Helena Canta and her family.

The Miref farm was a big old building with heavy walls of thick stone. The inside however, was modern, with thermal floor heating, and a fully equipped modern kitchen.

The property itself was set up around a central yard, protected by an exterior wall going back centuries, where peasants would take refuge from armed attackers.

Ironically, the farm wasn’t elevated at all, but in the hollow between two hills. When it rained, the running water was diverted by large ditches that would flow into a stream where ducks and geese had made their home, and which they aggressively protected with their sharp beaks from any human or animal intruders. The only welcome intruder was a huge turkey called Hector, who made his regular rounds throughout the entire property. Like a village policeman, he made it known whose presence he did or did not approve of. His favorite victim was the postman, if the unfortunate soul happened not to be the one Hector was accustomed to. Growing old had made Hector less and less tolerant of what was not “normal” to turkeys in general, and to him in particular. A turkey that’s not angry is no problem, but if you ever had to deal Hector on a day he was in a bad mood, you’d certainly remember it, but it’s doubtful if you’d ever want to talk about it.

Fantasy Story Helena 1-4 [audio book online]

Fantasy Story [audio book online]

HELENA
and the orchestra of the world of mist

The gray autumn clouds masking the light separated for a moment, and a ray of sun appeared, as if to punctuate the hope reflected in their conversation. School had ended at 3:30 and yet it was already starting to get dark. November with its shorter days was a hard burden to bear for those who thrived on daylight. The influence of light on ones morale and sense of optimism was a definite factor. It was the time of year that led to the darker months, the bitter winter cold, the dying leaves, the disappearance of insects and migrating birds that left for warmer climates, leaving everyone else behind. Too bad for those who dont know how to fly. Ciao. See you in the spring, they must have said to each other.
Winter at least, with its white snow, the quiet of the sounds it muffled, the endless number of reflecting mirrors, was dynamic. The days were short, but bright. And everything indicated that spring was coming. There was the anticipation, watching the branches eagerly for the first buds. But the autumn, with its clouds, its rain, its winds and its dismal days was the most depressing season of the year.

During the two weeks since Helenas parents had disappeared, the sky had been constantly dark and humid. Days began in the fog, followed by a thick cloud cover until night, which came faster with each passing day. Very often, the night wasnt enough to calm the wind, which continued to blow and sweep away everything in its path. The plaintive sliding scales chanted by the roofs, which suffered from the beating percussion of windows and shutters, harmonized with the tree branches shaking off their last leaves. Such was the tireless dramatic opera that nature performed every single night.

A MIGHTY FORTRESS

Still recovering from the dragons’ fire attack, Helena along with Jean-Gaël and the rest of the Orchestra sought protection in an underground shelter. It was a mighty fortress. Jean-Gaël, who acted as Helena’s underground guide, bragged on how their insulation walls will safeguard them against any assault from the evil characters. The underground shelter was fully fortified. But his sense of pride and security was shortly lived upon knowing the capture and death of some comrades during the dragon attack…

THIS musical tale is an innovative manga-like, audio book online brought to life by fantasy drawings, adventure soundtrack and techno beats. Modern adaptation of manga drawings gave dawn to lifelike graphic drawings and pictures of dragons, wolves and horses.

Like a typical anime warrior, Helena, a young virtuoso is destined to a heroic fate…
Join her in her quest of unlocking the mystery behind “The Prophecy” and her destiny.

BEGINNING PIANO [music concentration]

Helena and the Orchestra of the World of Mist

Helena arrived home. After taking care of her grandfather, she could no longer wait to take refuge in their concert grand piano. The piano was centered in a room where enough stream of light could strike the pianos sheet music. The illumination and the arrangement of things blended perfectly to create an ideal musical ambiance. Before Helena started to play the piano, she closed her eyes and emphasized on music concentration and internalization. Internally, she listened and reflected on the whole music piece.

Once the song reached the soul of the musician, the piano and the pianist becomes one. At this point, Helena is beginning to play the piano. Her fingers ran smoothly on the keys creating beautiful music and melody. It was flawless and relaxing to the soul. The piano continues to produce harmonious musical notes when suddenly the pianist stopped.

Spanish horse book [Horse books]

From the Fantasy Musical Audio Book Helena and the orchestra of the world of mist
This is another sample of my fantasy musical audio book. This particular episode is dedicated to my horse, whose real name is Manolo.
Manolo was a traumatized Spanish horse that I was introduced to when I was a horse whisperer. When I met him he pushed back against the wall as if trying to go through it. It took me an hour to reach him and two years to fully cure him. Manolo was very very much like “Fire”, and was a challenge to my horsemanship and my most exciting experience with a horse ever. Now he is old and retired, though still a very nervous temper for ever.
Do YOU like horses?

HOW TO BECOME A SOUND ENGINEER [audio recording]

HOW TO BECOME A SOUND ENGINEER
You would like to be, you are, a sound engineer.
Why will I hire you instead of somebody else?

By Stephane Meer, Head manager of Studio Capitale, Audio Post-Production company in Paris France.

For fifteen years now have I seen and interviewed young sound engineers, mostly out of school looking for a job.
Some of them can have their evaluation made in minutes, some take a few days, in all cases after a week we know if the challenger is a possible recruit or not.

What are the things to know?

First, what you learn in a school will at max be 50% of what you need to know.

Second, knowledge is important but the key is attitude.

Attitude toward a technical difficulty
Attitude toward the questions you should ask yourself
Attitude toward the company team
Attitude toward the customers.

1/ Attitude toward a technical difficulty

We NEVER ask anyone to know EVERYTHING before coming to us.
It’s okay if you don’t know a software, a machine, or a way to record something.
What you shouldn’t do is lie about it, and pretend you know when you don’t really.

The best attitude is to ask questions and get your hands on it.
We will judge you on the way you react and learn, much more than on what you already know!

2/ Attitude toward the questions you should ask yourself

The rule is: Everyone makes mistake, -provided you are human, aren’t you?-, but a professional always CHECKS OUT before delivering a program.

When a new challenger comes to us, he’s in probation. We start slow by giving him easy tasks at first. You should always check out any simple request you are given. THEN we will think you are reliable and go on giving you more and more responsibility.
If you fail those early tests, I’m very sad to say that you are black listed right away and your chance to be recruited is gone.
Always verify, verify, verify again, spend a lot of time at this until this is your second nature.

3/Attitude toward the company team

There are many good sound engineers out there, so why recrut somebody we don’t like and have to share our days with for the months or years to come?
The rule here is the same as in any social context:
Don’t think about YOUR perspective, think about THEIR’S!
Don’t talk about you, make them talk about themselves. What could be useful and comfortable for THEM first. What is their need, what is their problem, what do they like, what can YOU do for THEM?
Be in their shoes and they will take a good care of you and make you succeed.
It’s so simple to do the right thing when you focus on the right goal.
We don’t care about YOU, we care about what YOU can do for US.
So the first step, if you want to win the game, is to know more about the team you’d like to fit in.

4/Attitude toward the customers
Customers don’t spend their time with the accountant, with the secretary, with the manager…they spend their days with their sound engineer.
Therefore you ARE the company’s face to them!
We will recruit you if you give a good image to people. If you have charisma and sound reassuring, you definitely have an edge. The proper culture and way of life will give you a link with our customers and we will measure this feedback to evaluate you.
I’ve seen young sound engineer cross a customer in our corridor, and this person came at me and said: “I don’t want him for my session”. This is real life, every relationship detail is important, smile, hello, would you like a coffee or a tea…you know what I’m talking about don’t you.

My conclusion is: Don’t think you are a sound engineer because you master a pro tools!
Don’t think you are good because your school gave you good marks.
Be modest and master the tips I gave you, and you will be a winner.

Best luck to you!

Sincerely

Stéphane Meer
